Do you like the challenges? Found a biotech
Do you like challenges?, this is the title of Nora Alonso’s speech at the Congress of Plant Physiology, which will be held in Pamplona from 26th to 28th of June. Nora Alonso, IDEN’s CEO, will participate in one of the sessions dedicated to present case of studies science transference, “This is my idea, this is my project, this is my company”.
Nora will present IDEN’s business case, an experience of how challenging can be founding a biotech company. Not only is necessary to have a good technology and/or product to market, but also a market opportunity, timing, partners, IP, business management knowledge, skilled staff and enough funds are needed to run a successful business.
In parallel to finish her PhD in 2005, Nora Alonso co-founded the company Iden Biotechnology (www.idenbiotechnology.com; Navarra, Spain), a biotechnological company operating in the agriculture business.
According to Nora’s experience, running a biotech company requires understanding and involvement of the management in all functional areas and flexibility to accommodate to the changing and challenging scenarios. Skills like resilience, patience, management expertise or leadership are key to develop a high-performance team fully committed with the company mission and vision.
“As scientific founders, we have been open minded and able to adapt our role and decisions to the best interest of the company, the business, and company stakeholders, including the staff, the Board of Directors and the shareholders” Nora points out. “This is sometimes a difficult balance that we need to achieve in every single decision that we take as company managers, creating transparent, trustworthy and confident environment” highlights Nora.
